Who we are
Sunnyside Cottage is a self-catering holiday let at Weare Giffard, Bideford, Devon EX39 4QS. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
You can contact us about anything in this policy at sara@sunnyside-cottage.co.uk.
What this website collects
This website does not have an enquiry form, a booking system, or a newsletter signup. It does not take payments. There is nothing on the site that asks you to enter personal information.
The site does collect limited technical information automatically when you visit, and it links out to Airbnb and Instagram. Those are covered below.
If you email us
When you email us using the address on this site, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you choose to tell us. We use this only to answer your question. All bookings are made through Airbnb, so if you want to stay we will direct you to the Airbnb listing rather than take the booking by email.
Our lawful basis is legitimate interests, so that we can answer people who ask us about the cottage.
We do not keep enquiries that do not lead to a booking. Once we have answered you, the correspondence is deleted.
If you book through Airbnb
Bookings are made through Airbnb, not through this website. When you book, Airbnb collects your information under its own privacy policy and acts as a data controller in its own right. You can read that policy on the Airbnb website.
Airbnb then passes us the details we need to host your stay, which include your name, your dates, the number of guests, your messages to us and anything you have told Airbnb about your requirements. We use this to prepare the cottage, give you access, and deal with anything arising during your stay. Our lawful basis is performance of a contract.
We keep booking records for six years from the end of the tax year the stay falls in, so that we meet HMRC record keeping requirements. Payment records are held by Airbnb. We do not see or store your card details.
Cookies and website analytics
This website is hosted by Squarespace Inc., which acts as our data processor. Squarespace sets cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to load, stay secure and work correctly. These do not require your consent.
We also use Squarespace Analytics to see how many people visit the site and which pages they look at. These cookies are only set if you accept them through the cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by clearing cookies in your browser.
Squarespace's own cookie policy explains the cookies it sets and why.
Links to other sites
This site links to Airbnb and to Instagram. Once you follow one of those links you are on a service run by another company, under its own privacy policy. We have no control over what those companies collect.
Who else sees your information
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for marketing. It is seen only by:
- Squarespace, as our website host.
- Airbnb, where a booking is made through them.
- Our accountant, and HMRC where required, for financial records.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
Transfers outside the UK
Squarespace and Airbnb are United States companies and store data outside the UK. Those transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or UK adequacy regulations, so your information keeps an equivalent level of protection.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete information, where we have no continuing reason to keep it.
- Restrict how we use it, or object to us using it on the basis of legitimate interests.
- Transfer it to someone else, where it was given to us under a contract.
Email sara@sunnyside-cottage.co.uk and we will respond within one month. For information held by Airbnb about your booking, you will need to contact Airbnb directly.
Keeping your information secure
Only the people who need your information to run the cottage have access to it. We rely on the security controls built into the email, hosting and booking services listed above. No transfer of data over the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect it.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Any changes will appear on this page with a new date at the top.
